REINFORCED SELF-ADHESIVE PAPER TAPE

455HM, or reinforced self-adhesive paper tape
The 455HM is a packaging tape with a semi-crepe paper backing reinforced with longitudinal glass fibres and an adhesive based on synthetic rubbers and hydrocarbon resins (hot melt).

The high tack adhesive formula guarantees immediate grip in the closure of heavy and very heavy packages, and can be used with both manual dispensers and automatic taping machines.

The reinforced self-adhesive paper tape is available in brown colour but, like most Fabo products, can be customised through high quality printing.

This is a reinforced version of a product already present in the Fabo range, the 435HM, but with higher performance for closing heavy boxes than others paper packaging adhesive tapes.

What are the main features of the 455HM?

High breaking strength due to its structure consisting of longitudinal glass fibres;
High tack formula: very high and instant adhesive power;
Solvent-free product: synthetic rubber adhesive;
Disposable in paper;
Tamper-resistant;
For manual and automatic application;
The total weight is 107 g/m² and the total thickness about 125 µ.

The longitudinal glass fibre-reinforced self-adhesive paper backing makes the 455HM tape much stronger both in terms of breaking load and shear strength.

Due to its structural characteristics, the product immediately bonds to the cardboard packaging becoming a tamper-resistant system: the bond between tape and cardboard is so strong that any attempt to open or tamper with the package is immediately visible.

The 455HM can be ordered costumised as well as with FSC®-certified paper.

This is a high quality and innovative product in a market such as the paper tape one, which is still growing and developping thanks also to the choices made by many companies to move towards more ‘green’ and sustainable products.

The myriad uses of american/duct tape

Called by many names – American duct tape, gaffers tape, American scotch tape, American canvas, duct tape or duck tape – it is a tape that, precisely because of its versatility, is part of the repair and protection tape category in our range.
Curious to know why it is called “American”?

The origins
The suffix “American” comes from its origins: it was first launched in the middle of World War II, after a working mother of two soldiers enlisted in the US Navy sent a letter to President Roosevelt. In that missive, the woman explained that, by combining the concept of duct tape, i.e. the non-adhesive canvas strips that were used to reinforce clothes, shoes, etc., with adhesive, it would be possible to seal the ammunition boxes more easily and quickly, thus solving the problem of moisture infiltration. At that time, a solution was needed to seal boxes containing ammunition, transport them safely and open them quickly once they arrived at their destination.

That letter was actually forwarded by the president’s office to the war committee, which commissioned the development of the gaffers tape to a branch of Jonhson&Jonhson, Revolite. From early on, the tape was used by the US military for makeshift repairs to military vehicles and weapons.

It was Johnson & Johnson that first named it “duck tape” because of its water resistance that emulates that of a duck’s back.
After the war, American tape began to be used in construction, in particular for sealing heating and air conditioning duct joints. At that time, the colour changed from military green to silver, now its distinguishing feature.

The characteristics
It is a type of adhesive fabric tape that is particularly strong because it has a fabric reinforcement and is typically made waterproof by a polyethylene coating.
The type of fabric varies greatly: it can be cotton, but also nylon, polyester, fibreglass and so on. Below the fabric layer is the actual adhesive layer, which is typically very strong, while above it is a waterproof coating, usually made of low-intensity polyethylene.
The typical colour of the gaffers tape is grey, glossy grey.

The American Fabo tape is a hot melt tape with a polyethylene backing reinforced with polyester fibres. Its colour is the classic grey.

Let’s look at its main characteristics:

Great strength, able to withstand significant mechanical tensions;
Excellent conformability: it adapts to many shapes/applications;
Suitable for various surfaces (metal, glass, plastic, concrete, etc.);
Suitable for long-term applications;
Good abrasion resistance;
Waterproof, resistant to moisture;
Quick and easy to use: cut with your hands;
Writable;
Easily removable;

All uses: versatility is the watchword
American duct tape therefore has unique characteristics, making it ideal for the world of emergency (temporary) repairs and also for those intended to be stable and durable.
It is a versatile tape, indispensable in every environment and in every activity, from the domestic sphere to the industrial one because it effectively, safely and durably solves every need.
At home, it is the must-have tape in the toolbox: suitable for protection and sealing tasks, everyday emergency repairs, DIY activities.
Thanks to its composition and ductility, it lends itself to makeshift repairs even on surfaces subjected to extreme temperature conditions, such as ventilation or air conditioning ducts, with temperatures below zero. Or to repair exhaust pipes of cars or motorbikes where the heat developed can reach several hundred degrees.
On an industrial level, these reinforced tapes are used not only to seal ducts and pipes, but also to fasten protective covers together, secure transport (fastening of loose elements). Its extreme strength also makes it useful for belting objects and reinforcing packaging.

Advice on application?
Application requires gentle pressure on the surface to eliminate any air bubbles or creases. It is suitable for use on a variety of materials, adhering for a long time where almost all tapes come off. Very effective on rough, dirty surfaces, emergency repairs to pipes, PVC inflatables, boats, motor vehicles.

Fabo joins the Corporate Membership of Pistoia Musei

Fabo consolidates its ties with the Pistoia area by signing a membership agreement with the Pistoia Musei museum system.

The Pistoia Musei museum system is composed of four different venues located in the heart of Pistoia’s historic centre: a project started in 2019 under the Scientific Direction of Philip Rylands (Director Emeritus of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice) from the initiative of Fondazione Caript, managed by its instrumental company Pistoia Musei & Cultura Scrl and today directed by Monica Preti, for many years Director of cultural programming at the Auditorium Musée du Louvre.
What is Corporate Membership?
It is a programme aimed at businesses and professionals to become part of the prestigious museum system and contribute to making it a point of reference for the city’s cultural life.

Through its Corporate Membership, Pistoia Musei wants to gather entrepreneurs, companies and professionals around the city’s heritage and projects, in a strategic partnership between museums and enterprise.

By joining the Membership, Fabo associates its corporate identity with a cultural institution, thus leaving a concrete sign of its social responsibility through its commitment to culture and support for the arts.
The benefits are many: from marketing and communication opportunities, to the opportunity to meet, network, propose new projects, participate in exclusive events, and come into contact with artists and representative figures from the art world.

“Pistoia Musei gives a boost to the growth and enhancement of the local area by focusing on two fundamental values such as art and culture. Fabo wants to be the spokesperson for this message with the people who work and collaborate with the company” say our CEO & Directors Maurizio Fagni and Samuela Fagni.

IIF-SPAM concept contest: the winners

The collaboration project between Fabo and the communication agency SPAM concept, set up to support the didactic offer of Istituto Italiano di Fotografia – IIF led by Maurizio Cavalli, advertising photographer, founder and didactic director of the institute since 1992, has come to an end after 3 months.

The participants, aspiring photographers enrolled in the 2nd year of IIF’s prestigious two-year course, were asked to create an advertising campaign that would fully express the essence of gummed paper, a sustainable and recyclable product in which the company is making significant investments.

The entries were carefully judged and selected, considering their relevance to the brief, the creativity and the execution of the shot by the young photographer, resulting in the definition of the 3 winners:

1- Nicola De Leo

2- Alice Castelli

3- Davide Santillo

The 3 winners will have the opportunity to collaborate on projects related to corporate communication.

In view of the high quality of the projects executed and the effort put in, 7 other participants were also given the opportunity to have their shots published on the company’s social channels.

Fabo would like to thank the institute and the students who, with the support of the creative director Federico Mirarchi, created images that are surprising in their sensitivity and ability to represent the values of the company and the product.

FABO OBTAINS FSC® CERTIFICATION

During the purchasing process, more and more people want to make a responsible choice. For this reason, the place of origin, the raw materials and the environmental impact of the product are increasingly relevant information for the consumer.

For the producers of paper and its derivatives, a pressing issue is the responsible use of forest resources.

Hence the need for standards and procedures that can certify the responsible management of a forest and the traceability of materials derived from it, offering necessary guarantees to both the company that produces and the citizen who buys a paper product.

What FSC® means
FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) is one of the most widely used environmental certification systems. It is an international NGO founded in 1993 with the aim of promoting forest management that is:

environmentally friendly
socially useful
economically sustainable

FSC® includes among its members NGOs and environmental groups (WWF, Greenpeace), social groups (National Aboriginal Forestry Association of Canada), forest owners, wood and paper trading and processing industries, retail groups, researchers and technicians, totalling almost 900 members.

The internationally recognised FSC® certification system aims at correct forest management and traceability of derived products.

Fabo and FSC® certification
In October 2022, Fabo obtained FSC®  Chain of Custody certification, the certification for companies involved in the processing and/or trade of forest products.
Certified products must comply with very strict regulations defined by the body. Some of these concern:

Environmental impact – Forest management will ensure that biological diversity and its associated values, water resources, soils and ecosystems are preserved. In a nutshell, responsible collection of the necessary material is ensured in order to maintain the integrity of the forest.
Community relations and workers’ rights – Forest management operations must maintain or improve the long-term social and economic well-being of forest workers and local communities.
Rights of indigenous peoples – The legal and customary rights of indigenous peoples to own, use and manage their lands, territories and resources must be recognised and respected.
Compliance with FSC® Laws and Principles –  Forest management must comply with all applicable laws of the country in which it occurs, international treaties and agreements to which the country is a signatory, and comply with all FSC® principles and criteria.

In other words, an FSC®-certified forest is managed in an environmentally, socially and legally responsible manner.

What are the requirements a company has to fulfil to obtain this certification for its products?
FABO has undergone a thorough inspection of the departments called upon to handle FSC®-certified raw material: this is the beginning of a journey with obligations and regulations to be complied with, to which the company will be subjected every year. Certification represents an achievement that the company is committed to maintaining over time.
A choice of responsibility, a commitment to its customers.

What kind of classification
FSC-certified paper can be classified in three ways, depending on the origin of the raw material:

FSC® 100% declares that the material from which the product is made comes exclusively from certified forests.
FSC® Recycled for all products made from recycled and recovered material
FSC® Mixed, as the word itself says, is a mix of material from FSC®-certified forests (not less than 70%) and recycled material and/or controlled wood.

Ask for more information about the type of paper we use to make our FSC®-certified products.

FABO and SPAM Concept together to train photographers of the Italian Institute of Photography

The collaboration project between FABO and the communication agency SPAM Concept in support of the educational offer of the Italian Institute of Photography – IIF led by Maurizio Cavalli starts in these weeks. The young aspiring photographers who attend the first two years of the prestigious IIF were called to work on a brief with the aim of creating an advertising campaign to communicate one of Fabo’s flagship products: gummed paper, a highly sustainable and recyclable product.

The students of the 2nd year of the IIF two-year course will develop their creative ideas, and just as in the agency, they will discuss them with the creative director – Federico Mirarchi, SPAM Concept founder and Creative Manager – and then move on to the execution and actual photographic production, which will be carried out with all the credentials of professionalism.

FABO will award the first 3 campaigns that the company will select from among all the entries for relevance to the brief, creativity and creation of the shot.

Over 60 IIF students are already working enthusiastically on the FABO project.

Federico Mirarchi, Creative Manager of the agency, comments on the collaboration:

“For over 10 years we have been collaborating with IIF, contributing to courses that  are becoming increasingly structured from one year to the next and are aimed at training young photographers to make them professionals even before entering the world of work.  This year we have chosen FABO, the international leader for adhesive tapes, as we have identified their potential in creative terms. I am sure that the students will have fun and will produce work that the Customer will appreciate and that they will be proud to include in their portfolio”.

Best of luck from Fabo to all IIF students who will compete in this challenge! Stay tuned!!

FABO new Main Sponsor of Herons Basket Montecatini

13 October 2022 represents an important date that marks the beginning of the collaboration between FABO Spa and MTVB Herons Basket, the Montecatini basketball company committed to facing the national championship.

Right in Montecatini, at the Grand Hotel Croce di Malta, the press conference in which the two-year agreement between the companies was formalised took place, following which the team adopted the name of FABO Herons Montecatini.

It is an agreement that underlines the company’s link with the territory, in particular the link of Maurizio Fagni with the city of Montecatini, a city in which he has lived for over 30 years and not far from Larciano, the company’s headquarters. Added to this is FABO’s historical link with sport, after its experiences as a sponsor of football and basketball in Pistoia.

Chairman Luchi welcomes FABO Spa to the MTVB Herons world: “It is a company that does not need any introduction, an agreement that gives us a lot of responsibility and we are proud that it is from the territory. Already 70 sponsors have been attracted and we are only in the second year of activity. Anselmo Fagni, the founder, was one of the enlightened minds of this area. We added Valdinievole to the company name because we wanted it to be our token of belonging and it allows us to look to the future with ambition. I thank Maurizio Fagni and his family who have had faith in us and who run an amazing company”.

Creativity, passion and work culture are the key words that unite these two companies which today establish an alliance that we hope will stand the test of time.

“We have chosen a sponsorship of two years to give continuity to the project, which could also last longer,” says Maurizio Fagni.

Furthermore, Maurizio Fagni underlines the common values between the company and the team: “In companies, it’s the people who make the difference, the values, the skills and the passion of team members are the making of a company’s success.” In the same way, on a team, the values and passion of individual players are what make the difference, and everyone contributes to achieving the same goal, the success of the team, its victory.”

Proud of this link and looking to the future, we wish the Herons all the best for the next few games!

Martina Fiori

FABO alongside golfer Martina Flori

Martina Flori, 25 years old from Montecatini is the new promising player in women’s golf.
On the golf course since she was 6 years old, thanks to parents who passed on the passion, her father, Luca Flori has always been her teacher and guide, her mother Elena Marchetti, also on the circuit, has always encouraged her to go down the professional route.

After returning in 2019 from the United States with a degree in marketing and communication, obtained at the University of Mississippi, and victory with the “Ole Miss” team in the SE Conference, the most important competition among university teams in the southeast of the United States, Martina Flori did not devote herself much to golf. She obtained a Master’s degree at Polimoda in Florence in fashion marketing and communication and then worked for a year in Milan at Golf’us (a golf clothing and accessories company) in a digital marketing team.
But office work was not for Martina, who decided to return to playing golf, this time with a goal: to become a professional. After a 2020 that forced her to stop again due to the Covid emergency, in 2021 she resumed playing golf seriously.

In July 2021, the possibility of landing on the Ladies European Tour became concrete when the golfer from Montecatini (among the best Italian players at a youth level and several times a main character seen in the National Team shirt) made the cut to the Lausanne tournament of Let Access, the minor European circuit.
“I got an invitation and took advantage of it. I saw that the level of play was within my reach and I worked even harder. Since August I have been training full time in Montecatini and in October I played another Let Access tournament in Barcelona. Then, at the beginning of December, I participated in the national gathering of professionals in Sutri and I was followed by all the blue staff and in particular by Roberto Zappa” – says Martina.
The following week Martina participated in the prequalification of the Let Q-School, in Cartagena, Spain, and after 3 rounds finished in 67th place with a total of +11, acquiring the right to participate in the Ladies European Tour.

From February 2022 Martina has made her debut as a professional with a calendar that takes her around Europe from May to end in Paris at the end of October.

The blue tape for the frozen industry

Packing tape in sub-zero temperatures: Sealing problems in extreme storage conditions?
Fabo has the solution for you. Tape 222 offers excellent performance over wide range of temperatures, in damp and cold transport and storage environments (down to -18° C) and on recycled boxes. For these characteristics it is recommended in the refrigeration industry. Obviously, to guarantee its functionality, the application of the tape must take place under standard conditions, i.e., at room-temperature.

Fabo 222 adhesive tape is a high-performance industrial packaging tape with a biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) backing and water-based acrylic adhesive. The product is therefore completely solvent-free and featured by noisy unwinding. The blue color enhances its properties and makes it unique on the market, as well as linking it immediately to the cold concept.

Main features:

Its high adhesiveness (5.3 N/cm) makes it preferable to other similar products on the market.
Excellent box sealing performance even under extreme transport and storage conditions, i.e., down to -18° C.
Adheres to a wide range of surfaces, including Corrugated fiberboard boxes realized with recycled material.
It is ideal for sealing medium-weight packages both with manual dispensers and with automatic taping machines.
Available in different sizes and lengths to meet various market requirements.

Compare it with standard acrylic and hot melt tapes:
